These platforms are in high demand during the lockdown as people watch over their favourite movie or web series over these platforms to spend their time in the home.
As per the sources, the films of many big stars will release over the platforms mentioned above as there is no surety that when everything will be back to the normal. There have been assumptions that Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani’s Laxmi Bomb will get an OTT release in June instead of theatrical release due to the Pandemic. Hotstar OTT spokesperson recently declined this, and our sources say that everything depends upon Akshay Kumar as he is also the producer of the movie. He must need to be convinced by the production house for the deal, and the production team is expecting a profit of at least one hundred and fifty crores from this film if it gets a theatrical release. Fox Star Studios produce the movie, and Disney India has acquired all the rights from Fox Star Studios to release the product over the Star’s OTT Platform (Disney Hotstar). So there is nothing special about the deal as it would release at the Home OTT itself.
There has been opposition from the theatre owners not to release the movie digitally as it will impact their business. Fearing the revenue loss, the distributors have protested against a film getting a release in the small screen before theatrical release.
